Kompetenzorientierte Methodiken

The work with competence-oriented methodologies – with action models that are comparably used as standards by several service providers – has been further developed since the first edition in 2007 and has gained broad acceptance. The book presents methodological variations for outreach family work, for placement in foster families, for outpatient work with families and adolescents, for work in residential settings, as well as for juvenile justice. Additional methodologies – for child protection and school social work – are in preparation.

What all methodologies have in common is the promotion of developmental and learning processes as well as the orientation towards successful everyday coping of children, adolescents, and their parents. The text integrates the work with methodologies into current concepts of social work and presents selected theoretical foundations. For concrete professional practice, tools (observation and assessment grids, conversation guides, report templates) and methodological notes are provided, illustrated with examples and small exercises. Additionally, a toolbox with didactic materials is available.

The book serves as a foundational text for good practice in child and youth welfare. It provides the basis for a consciously designed and standards-oriented working method as well as for regular quality checks with regard to effectiveness.
