Product details

1946. The Iron Curtain divides Europe. The formerly independent Estonia has become a western Baltic province of the Soviet Union. Deportations to Siberia and mass immigration of Russian citizens have turned Estonians into a minority in their own country. The Soviet Union imposes a travel ban. Against this backdrop, British BBC radio host Alan and Estonian opera singer Johanna try to maintain their romantic relationship. Their letters are intercepted by the secret service. Despite the adverse circumstances, they plan a secret meeting in Moscow. Johanna's nephew, a six-year-old boy and son of a former resistance fighter, grows up in a confusing environment. In a home marked by fear and hiding, there is no room for childish joy. It is no surprise that he gratefully enjoys the small moments of apparent openness.
