Kommentar zum apostolischen Glaubensbekenntnis

The Apostles' Creed is a Christian statement of faith or symbol of faith. It most likely originated in 5th century Gaul and is a development of the ancient Roman symbol, the old Latin creed from the 4th century. Since the 8th century, it has been used liturgically in the Latin rite and has become established in various modern branches of Western Christianity, including the modern liturgy and catechesis of the Catholic Church, Lutheranism, Anglicanism, Presbyterianism, the Moravian Church, the Methodist Church, and the Congregational Church. It is shorter than the complete Niceno-Constantinopolitan Creed of 381, but it is still explicitly Trinitarian in structure and contains sections affirming belief in God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. It does not address certain Christological issues defined in the Nicene Creed. Therefore, it does not explicitly state anything about the divinity of Jesus or the Holy Spirit. For this reason, it was regarded in the medieval Latin tradition as older than the Nicene Creed.
