Memory' and 'remembrance' are leading themes in science and in socio-political discourse. - This volume brings together the various theories, terminologies and methods from research on individual and collective memory and addresses the following questions in particular: How does the concept of memory differ in history and social sciences, literary studies and psychology? In what ways can the memory-building effects of literature and other media be described and analysed? What consequences does the 'transcultural and transnational turn' have for memory research? - The aim of this volume is to map the hardly manageable field of interdisciplinary and international memory research and to provide useful categories of analysis especially for literary scholars interested in cultural history.
