The Hanseatic day trips are regarded as the "only authoritative governing body" and the "nerve center" of the Hanse. The records of these day trips are among the most significant sources of Hanseatic history. Engaging with the Hanseatic assembly system remains a central area of Hanse research. The nine contributions address the day trips of the Hanseatic cities at both regional and supra-regional levels, the functioning of the assembly system, and related practices, particularly the sealing practices and handling of confidentiality. A focus is placed on examining the spatial aspects of the day trips and their impact on negotiation mechanisms as well as the self-understanding of the Hanseatic cities. Additionally, three contributions shed light on non-Hanseatic assembly systems, such as the day trips in the Empire and the diets of the Confederation, to provide comparisons and insights into the political culture of the Holy Roman Empire.
