This book on reciprocating compressors is intended to provide both the student and the practical designer, planner and operating engineer with all the knowledge necessary to understand the thermodynamic processes in the compressor and its operating behavior, and to calculate its energy consumption and all the main dimensions of the machine required for design and construction. Misconceptions about reciprocating compressors are sometimes found in the literature. In order to save the reader of this book errors and unnecessary time, general references to such publications are avoided. Everything is explained in as much detail as is necessary for understanding. In the case of theoretical principles, only that which is directly related to the internal processes in the compressor and which is relevant for the reader is given.
