Erwachsenwerden mit geistiger Behinderung

People with intellectual disabilities in Germany, like the general population, are living longer. This raises new questions about growing up and being an adult, as well as the needs of older individuals with intellectual disabilities. The volume addresses these topics and critically examines social, societal, and cultural notions of 'being an adult' in the context of autonomy, support, maturity, and responsibility. Building on this, practical questions and challenges related to growing up with an intellectual disability, such as partnership and family, housing, the world of work, cultural participation, and political engagement, are discussed.
