In the Lüneburg Heath, it hasn't rained for weeks. Both humans and nature are suffering from the heat and drought. After a devastating forest fire near Wieckenberg, the charred body of a man is found. He is a local hunter. The fact that it was not a tragic accident is indicated by the dead man's hands being bound with handcuffs. The case keeps Chief Inspector Robert Mendelski and his young colleague Maike Schnur on their toes, as shortly thereafter, there is another victim to mourn.
