When we talk about trauma, the event, the narratable story, is usually at the forefront. However, a trauma is primarily an experience that has happened to the body and has been stored there. Therefore, purely cognitively oriented therapeutic approaches often do not suffice for many patients. The author's experiences as a trauma therapist and yoga teacher, along with training in trauma-sensitive yoga (TSY) with David Emerson, encouraged her to transfer the principles of TSY to a one-on-one setting. She presents asanas and breathing exercises that are suitable for the individual process support of complexly traumatized patients. This way, affected individuals can gently learn to feel their bodies again and improve their emotional regulation. Dagmar Härle’s book opens a space where traditional Indian concepts of yoga and modern insights come together.
