Körper von Gewicht

In her first, much-discussed book, The Discomfort of the Sexes (es 1722), with which she became the star of feminist debates, Judith Butler put forward the thesis that gender identity is not something naturally given, but is constituted incessantly socially, culturally and linguistically.
In Körper von Gewicht she goes one step further: she exposes the beloved distinction between biological and social gender as a culturally constructed ideology. Thus, seemingly fixed categories such as nature, culture and body are just as shaken as the clear attributions of masculinity and femininity were before. In her "exciting, combative work" (Tages-Anzeiger), Butler asks about the subtle power mechanisms behind such categories.
