Countless legends entwine around the life of Queen Luise of Prussia, who enjoyed extraordinary popularity even during her lifetime: beautiful and fun-loving, charming and little educated, she had to ascend the throne with her husband, Frederick William III, in difficult times even as a young woman and died in the prime of her life at the age of 34. Important contemporaries such as Heinrich von Kleist and Achim von Arnim were her admirers, and Emperor Napoleon I respectfully called her his "worst enemy".
