Product details
The book "Cologne in the Middle Ages" originated from a commemorative publication by the archivist Leonard Korth (1853-1914) from the year 1888 and provides a brief overview of the history of the city of Cologne. Cologne, known in medieval times as Coellen or Coelln, was for a long time the largest city in terms of area and population north of the Alps during the Middle Ages. It was a hub of trade and art, the metropolis of the ecclesiastical province of Cologne, the seat of the archbishop, a Free Imperial City, and a pilgrimage city. Through its rights to trade and minting, Cologne became one of the most significant and influential cities in Europe. Today, one would call it a global city. This is a carefully revised reprint of the original edition from 1890.
