Solar cookers offer the opportunity to cook and bake in an environmentally friendly way for 100 to 150 days a year, even in our region. The food tastes better because it is cooked more slowly and gently, making it richer in nutrients and vitamins compared to conventionally cooked meals. Cooking in the garden or while on the go is not only fun and a unique sensory pleasure, but it also demonstrates how anyone can harness the power of the sun with a surprisingly simple technique. After a brief historical overview, several commercially available solar cookers that are best suited for our latitudes will be introduced. A detailed and illustrative description, complete with many photos and drawings, will follow, showcasing a wooden solar oven (box cooker) that has proven effective here for many years and can be easily replicated with readily available materials.
