They are called the Blue, White, Red, and Green families. They live secluded in their settlement and follow the rules. Reproduction and nature are high on the list of norms. "Bone Songs" tells the story of the Green and Blue families over approximately six decades, starting around 2020. While the first part focuses on life in the settlement, the novel shifts in the second part, set about twenty years later, to a monitored city that only knows a state of emergency. Here lives Pippa, along with a repulsive father from whom she seeks to escape.
