Product details
Understanding and interpreting literature. "Could one live without a mission?" is the central question of Alfred Andersch's socially critical novel "Sansibar oder der letzte Grund" (1957). In the late 1930s, five individuals coincidentally meet in a town on the Baltic Sea. They want to escape the terror of the totalitarian regime in Germany and are each searching for a new purpose in life—individually and collectively for the endangered sculpture "The Reading Monk" by Ernst Barlach. The island of Zanzibar serves as a symbolic place of longing.
