Klaviersonaten Band 2

Schubert's 22 piano sonatas reflect the compositional journey of this composer, who died far too young. From the early attempts of his sixteen to nineteen years, a continuous development can be observed leading to the five major sonatas he composed between 1823 and 1826, and finally to the three masterful sonatas created shortly before his death, which undoubtedly place him on par with Beethoven as a sonata composer. Volume II of the three-volume Henle Urtext edition contains, after the G major sonata, D 894, op. 78, with its airy piano writing full of delicate expression, the three great master sonatas in C minor, A major, and B major, through which Schubert looks far into the future and which belong to the classical canon of piano sonata literature.
