Product details
This textbook pursues a dual didactic goal: to present Classical Mechanics in a modern and methodically careful manner, and to demonstrate to students the extensive application possibilities of this subject through a variety of examples. To achieve this, the physical arguments used in the derivations are explained in detail. The mathematical calculations are justified step by step and presented in an easily understandable way. Numerous exercises with complete solutions, which outline an efficient problem-solving approach and also include the physical interpretation of the results, support students in independently engaging with the material.
The presentation starts from clearly defined starting points (the postulates) and effectively and transparently leads from the principles to the applications. In addition to the Newtonian formulation of mechanics, the Lagrangian and Hamiltonian variants are also described in detail. Non-relativistic mechanics and special relativity are treated uniformly, making the parallels as well as the differences clearly recognizable. The book is modular in structure and methodically coherent. It presents Classical Mechanics, which students of physics and related fields typically encounter during their bachelor's studies in theoretical lectures. Therefore, it is excellently suited both as a flexible companion book for lectures at various levels and for self-study.
