When the most natural thing in the world doesn’t work out, systemic and transgenerational fertility counseling can support and stabilize individuals who are involuntarily childless in a resource-oriented manner. Involuntarily childless individuals experience shame and powerlessness, with old biographical wounds resurfacing. The desire for a child, as a private, political, ethical, and above all, controversially discussed topic in reproductive medicine, requires a personal stance from those affected. The author highlights the relevance of the discourse and illustrates through various practical examples how singles and couples can actively examine and weigh their values, wishes, and ideas. In this way, the longing for a child can be seen as a resource and used as a guiding principle for creating a meaningful daily life. A child cannot be replaced, but a happy life is possible even without one. This volume is aimed at therapists, counselors, coaches, all affected individuals, and their relatives. Systemic methods and a transgenerational perspective, such as integrating the desired child into the family system, are effective and successful companions in counseling clients.
