Kinderlieder und Kinderspiele aus dem Vogtlande

Children's songs and games from the Vogtland region, accompanied by a lecture on the essence of popular children's songs. Almost all of the children's songs widely known in Germany originate from the 19th century. Heinrich Hoffmann von Fallersleben (1798-1874) alone wrote the lyrics to about 500 children's songs. Notable contributors to the lyrics include Ernst Anschütz (who wrote "Fuchs, du hast die Gans gestohlen" in 1824) and the educator Friedrich Fröbel (who wrote "Häschen in der Grube" in 1840). Some very old children's songs can still be found in Carl Orff's music for children (Orff-Schulwerk) and in old songbooks (such as the German Folk Song Archive or "Des Knaben Wunderhorn" by Ludwig Achim von Arnim and Clemens Brentano). The instruments from the so-called "Musikwinkel," with the towns of Markneukirchen and Klingenthal in the upper Vogtland, are known worldwide for their excellent sound. Until World War II, 80 percent of the orchestral instruments produced globally came from the Vogtland region. This is a reprint of the original edition from 1894.
