Kinderarbeit und demografischer Wandel in Thailand

In Southeast Asian countries, the notable decline in birth rates is one of the most significant demographic phenomena of recent decades. Nevertheless, child labor is viewed as a critical, pressing issue that permeates developing countries. In this paper, I examine the relationship between the demographic transition—the decline in fertility and mortality that has recently occurred in Thailand—and the changing patterns of child labor for school-aged children. After describing the situation and providing an overview of the literature, I focus on an empirical analysis of panel data for the Nang Rong district. The results align with the prediction that the decline in birth rates, in conjunction with economic development, positively influences parents' decisions regarding the economic activities of their children.
