My book is divided into four main sections. The first two sections, definitions of terms and children's experiences with dying and death, provide the theoretical background necessary to sensitively address the topics of death, dying, and grief with children. The next points, diverse approaches to grief work and practical applications, focus on the practical work with children. It explains how, in what context, and in which situations, as well as at what points in the curriculum and during specific events, the topics of death, dying, and grief can be addressed. First, the key terms death, dying, and grief are defined, along with related aspects such as the stages of dying and grieving or the development of the concept of death. Furthermore, it discusses the situations in which children may encounter death, ranging from the transience of nature to the death of a very close person. This is followed by various methods for processing grief. This grief work is an essential part of coping with a traumatic experience and finding a way back to everyday life. Subsequently, practical applications for teaching in elementary school are developed, which can help children manage their grief.
