Sediment und Sedum

"Sediment and Sedum" tells the backstory of the extensive nature writing project "Wild Seeds. Casual Observations of a Landscape Caretaker from His Terrain. A Year in Review." Ten years ago, the two narrators retreated to a remote farmstead on the edge of the spectacular yet highly endangered historical cultural landscape of the Upper Tauber Valley, where they work in the long tradition of their ancestors on the preservation and development of steppe heaths, (semi-)dry grasslands, and stone ridges. The south is tantalizingly close in this dry, often hot region – and is revealed in its historical "below" (the shell limestone of the ancient sea) and present "above" (landscape and plant forms). Autobiographically grounded storytelling intertwines with the narrative of the terrain – from the soil to the bloom, which is also reflected in the title: sediment understood as the substrate and sedum exemplarily as one of the plant species of the limestone dry grasslands.
