Erika Sellmann Büsching

Art does not emerge in a vacuum, but through people, life stories, and contexts. Erika Sellmann Büsching explores how one becomes an artist, or better yet, a "maker of images," in this illustrated book. She pairs autobiographical information about various stages of her career with images of her works. It becomes evident that certain themes and motifs are formative for the artist's work. They recur across different media—from her beginnings in high weaving to tufting and painting—and are processed in cycles. Büsching's works are complemented by brief reflections from collectors, an art historical classification by Eberhard von Zawadzky, and an interview with Eckhart von Hirschhausen.
