Product details
The bad news: We are all going to die. The good news: One of us won't. Linus Reichlin's novel explores the improbability of our existence, the healing effects of whiskey, and the question of why Keith Richards is always so far ahead of us – it saves its readers more than just the day! Fred Hundt, a specialist in probability theory, is in the middle of explaining the relativity of time and space to fifth graders using fried eggs when his old friend Ben Harper calls. The two met during a risky solo vacation in the Caribbean and vowed to always support each other in times of crisis. Apparently, Ben, who as a doctor for celebrities in California has little to complain about, is currently in the midst of a major crisis. In any case, he wants Fred to hop on a plane to L.A. immediately. For Fred, this isn't unwelcome. He could use a distraction, as he is feeling miserable: his favorite musician, Keith Richards, has just died. This is a significant event; the passing of his greatest rock idol marks for Fred the beginning of the great disappearance. From now on, it could happen to anyone, even him. However, the trip to Ben will turn out to be a stroke of luck. Not only will Fred's expertise in extraordinary physical phenomena be put to the test, but he will also find himself on a deserted island with Keith Richards himself, facing practical problems he never dared to dream of. "I'm more of a Beatles person, but I have a serious weakness for the Stones. Linus Reichlin's book is filled with sentences you want to memorize. It's grotesque, funny, and clever. Afterwards, you want to listen to a lot of music and drink bourbon." Frank Goosen.
