Namibia is one of the most popular long-distance travel destinations for Germans today - perhaps also because it was once a colony as "German Southwest Africa". In recent years, the experience of tourism and globalisation has brought European colonialism, which also had a far greater impact on German history than is generally assumed, into the public consciousness. This volume presents a balance of the search for traces of places of remembrance of the often inglorious German colonial history. In 30 individual contributions, it presents people, institutions, events and imaginary worlds: Albert Schweitzer's hospital Lambaréné, Hagenbeck's zoo and Kaiser Wilhelm II's "Hun Speech" are among them, as well as Mount Kilimanjaro, which the German Hans Meyer was the first European to climb, Bernhard Grzimek's film "Serengeti darf nicht sterben" or the "Sarotti-Mohr".
