The volume presents the fundamental knowledge in the field of Church History up to the High Middle Ages in eleven chapters, reflecting the content that should be part of a study of Protestant Theology. It spans a wide arc from the 2nd to the 13th century, covering the beginnings of the post-apostolic period to the influential systems of thought of Scholasticism. Although this was a long time ago, it continues to shape European Christianity in significant ways—sometimes in surprising ways. This textbook does not primarily focus on conveying an overwhelming amount of names, dates, and facts. Instead, it emphasizes understanding connections and discovering that engaging with Church History can contribute to a constructive dialogue with the diversity of Christianity in a globalized world.
