Product details
The authors are both rooted in the Native American tradition. David Carson is the author of numerous relevant contributions in magazines and films that address societal issues, particularly those of minorities. He is a Choctaw by birth, raised in Oklahoma, and has lived in the reservations of the Cheyenne, Crow, and Sioux in Manitoba and Montana. Jamie Sams is a medicine teacher and a member of the teacher lodge of the Wolf Clan from the Seneca Nation. By heritage, she is Iroquois and Choctaw. She has been trained in the medicine of the Seneca, Maya, Aztecs, and Choctaw. During the 1970s, Jamie learned from teachers of the Maya and Aztecs in Mexico. She has taught in England, France, Egypt, Kenya, Mexico, Peru, and Guatemala, as well as in the United States.
Strong as a bear, sharp-eyed as an eagle, gentle as a deer—our language encompasses many qualities that are directly related to power animals. In Native American tradition, it was customary for a person seeking guidance and counsel to stand before the elders who were connected to the great mystery. With this spiritual guidance, the "Cards of Power" connect us. As a medicine shield, each individual card reveals to the seeker their special and unique gifts. Each animal symbolizes an inner strength that lies deep within every person, waiting to be discovered and unfolded in harmony with the spiritual world. It is up to us to allow this source of wisdom to flow and to connect with the spirit guides of the animals.
