Der Mann, der alles sah

London 1988. The young historian Saul Adler is hit by a car on Abbey Road. Only slightly injured, he gets up and poses for his girlfriend Jennifer Moreau on the crosswalk, made famous by the Beatles album. He takes the photo with him to East Berlin, where he intends to research the early resistance against National Socialism. There, Saul meets the translator Walter Müller and his sister Luna, whose greatest wish is to finally see Penny Lane in Liverpool. Saul begins an affair with both of them – and fate takes its course. The story catches up with Saul, both his own and that of Europe. Time and space dissolve, truths stand on shaky ground, and no one sees what the other sees. Until Saul finds himself back on Abbey Road thirty years later – and gradually realizes what he, who thought he had seen so much, has not recognized, and what others have seen in him. A novel about how we narrate our own and collective history (correctly) and how little we can trust ourselves to find our way, in life and in love.
