Product details

Alfons Zimmermann created the first and, to this day, the only region-specific guide with his booklet "Die Kalkkögel bei Innsbruck," published in 1922. The subsequent history of ascents can be found in the pioneering guidebooks to the Stubai Alps by Heinrich and Walter Klier. It took 70 years until Andreas Orgler published new routes in the Kalkkögel in his climbing guide "Klettern in den Stubaier Alpen und im Valsertal." His minimalist, uniquely clear topos are hard to surpass. After that, not much new information was available. We have now attempted to update the out-of-print older works, providing illustrated guides that focus on the current condition of the routes. This book is aimed at all nature lovers, mountaineers, and climbers drawn to the Kalkkögel. The small mountain range south of the Tyrolean capital Innsbruck is a sensitive habitat caught in the political tension between conservation and use. It serves as a recreational area, economic space, and also as an old, almost forgotten climbing area. Nestled in the charming green alpine landscape of the Senderstal, this small mountain chain presents itself as a contrasting Tyrolean mountain landscape – a perfect promotional asset. However, for the needs of modern climbers, the Kögelen are not the first choice. Information about routes is scarce, the routes themselves are quite original, and the rock quality, often justifiably, has a dubious reputation. Nevertheless, this weathered limestone ridge can be enchanting and still attracts some elite alpine climbers today. Why is that? The Kögelen simply have "something special.".
