Kakanien revisited - Rückblick und Ausb

This volume from the series 'Culture-Domination-Difference' is conceived as an assessment, reflection, and continuation of Kakanien revisited, one of the most successful cultural science networks initiated from Austria with significant international resonance. The initiative encompasses research projects in Vienna and Zagreb, international symposia, and internet formats, based on several premises regarding the Habsburg monarchy and its successor states, which will be fundamentally discussed in this volume using exemplary cases. An important side effect of this attempt at a cultural overview of the post-Kakanian space is that correspondences between the various literatures and cultures emerge, which have often been overshadowed by a national literary-historical perspective. The focus is on an expanded concept of culture that revolves around mediation and power, where the relationship between center and periphery, the paradigm of similarity, and collective memory play a central role. Furthermore, this volume explores the similarities and differences between imperiality and colonialism, as well as the methodology of cultural analysis.
