Justin, Apologien

The Apologies of Justin, who lived and taught in Rome in the middle of the 2nd century and suffered martyrdom there, are considered a major work of early Christian apologetics. They reflect the early Christianity's engagement with its pagan environment. Justin aims to defend Christianity against accusations and suspicions while also presenting it as the true rational philosophy that is superior to all other philosophies and cults. This volume offers a new German translation as well as the first comprehensive commentary on the Apologies in the German language. It particularly highlights their diverse historical references to church and theology and their intellectual positioning within the contemporary pagan context.
