Product details

"Jung's Nietzsche" is a profound exploration of the complex relationship between C.G. Jung and Friedrich Nietzsche, viewed through the lens of the so-called 'visionary' literary tradition. The book connects Jung's experiences with the posthumously published "Liber Novus" (The Red Book) and his own (mis)interpretation of Nietzsche's "Thus Spoke Zarathustra." It posits the hypothesis that Jung regarded "Zarathustra" as Nietzsche's "Liber Novus," with both works seen by Jung as 'visionary' experiences. After exploring visionary authors whom Jung often compared to Nietzsche, the book focuses on the two thinkers and analyzes stylistic similarities as well as explicit references to Nietzsche and "Zarathustra" in "Liber Novus." Jung's annotations in his own edition of "Zarathustra" are also examined to understand the nuances of Jung's interpretation in the context of his five-year seminar on "Zarathustra." A central theme of the book is the figure of 'Christ' and the views of Nietzsche and Jung on the 'death of God.'.
