Product details
After the first part of our chronicle on the South Bohemian narrow-gauge railways covered the period from 1897 to 1997, the second part deals with the quarter-century that both railways operated under the name "JHMD" - which ended with the cessation of services on October 2, 2022, along with the company's insolvency. Martin Junge not only shares his personal impressions but also provides a detailed account of the company's formation and development. This includes the history of the newly built railcars, culminating in the naming ceremony of the M27.004 in the new red-cream colors. Additionally, there are behind-the-scenes looks at the workshop, which are usually closed to the public. The restoration and refurbishment of locomotives, such as the steam locomotive U37.002, are documented photographically. The remaining freight traffic is also presented, highlighted by the winter of 2016/2017, featuring a mixed train pair between Jindrichuv Hradec/Neuhaus and Kunzak-Lomy/Königseck-Tieberschlag. This briefly revives the era of freight trains with passenger services on both lines. The end, the last passenger train between Jindrichuv Hradec/Neuhaus and Obratan/Wobratain, is experienced by Martin as a passenger of the JHMD railway workers. This report concludes the story of the South Bohemian narrow-gauge railways as many railway enthusiasts came to know them.
