Julia Krause-Harder

Textile works are one of the focal points of Julia Krause-Harder's (1973) artistic oeuvre. For three years, she sewed, knotted, and knitted a monumental world map measuring over 250 square meters. In doing so, she chose colors and patterns for each nation that relate to the characteristics of the respective country or region. With fabrics and threads, symbolic appliqués, and embroidered text, impressive compositions have emerged that reflect Krause-Harder's deep fascination with Earth’s history and the countries of all continents, along with their political, geographical, and cultural contexts. Her collaged, colorful depiction of the Earth simultaneously raises questions about our own perceptions of our world and our planet.
