Product details

Jürgen Schilling (born in 1954 in Offenbach am Main) has been depicting the landscapes of southern France for 40 years. His journey has been accompanied from the very beginning by art historian Wilhelm Schlink, who has been a friend and collaborator. Schlink vividly describes the artist's approaches and thoughts, especially in light of the current debate on contemporary landscape interpretations. The rugged landscape between the Mediterranean, the Corbières, and the Minervois, where one experiences the elements of nature up close, has inspired Jürgen Schilling since the 1970s. Against the backdrop of his studies in art history and philosophy regarding the broad field of landscape representation, he has created a body of work driven by the need to do justice to what has happened and been experienced. Schilling utilizes raw materials and pigments found directly on-site. A first retrospective of his work took place in 2012 in Carcassonne.
