Journalistische Verantwortung unter dem Druck des Primordialismus

Conflicts are a dangerous situation, but when handled and reported appropriately, they can be a blessing for the parties involved. This study examined the responsibility of journalists and the pressure they face when reporting on conflicts in Benue State, Nigeria. The study is based on a qualitative research method involving 20 selected journalists from Radio Benue, Makurdi; NTA Makurdi; Sun Rays FM, Korinya, and The Pavilion Newspaper, Makurdi, including both male and female journalists. Research questions focused on the purpose of the investigation guided the study. A standardized open interview format was used for data collection. The collected data were analyzed using the explanatory model. The results of the research questions indicated that there are factors influencing journalists, the pressure affecting the framing of news by journalists, and the strategies employed by journalists when reporting on conflicts are diverse. The study found that journalists contribute to peacebuilding before, during, and after crises. Among other recommendations, the study suggests that journalists should adopt a peace-oriented approach when reporting on conflicts, especially in cross-border situations.
