Product details

In Jost Nickel's latest work SNARE BOOK, everything revolves around the snare drum. On 124 pages, he offers the reader a wealth of different, varied snare exercises to improve playing technique and general rhythm understanding. "I like to practise, but I don't like exercises where I have to play the same thing all the time," says Jost. "Then my mind wanders and I can hardly motivate myself to keep practising because of the lack of variation. Of course, practising is repetition, but I don't want to get bored either." In his usual structured form, Jost presents exercise concepts in different time signatures and subdivisions for the systematic improvement of rhythmic flexibility and motor independence as well as better playing control via tempo changes, which strengthen the rhythmic overview and help to keep the exercises in this book exciting and varied. "My SNARE BOOK is definitely NOT a typical rudiments book." adds Jost. "I am sure that the richness of variation in the exercises in this book will help you to focus well and thus have fun while practising. This makes it easier to play exercises as often as you need to in order to progress." The subject of the first chapter is a variety of different warm-up exercises, combining, for example, familiar hand phrases with accents, subdivisions and time signatures that are unusual for those hand phrases. In addition, one finds ostinato exercises that improve independence and interlocking exercises for better coordination. Clear concepts characterise the second part of the book, in which Jost leads step by step through exercises on double-stroke rolls, flams, multiple strokes, ruffs, inverted double-stroke rolls, paradiddles and others. They enable the user to come up with their own exercises, keeping the approach but changing the content. Jost Nickel's SNARE BOOK is also ideal for practising on the go on the drum pad. The 12-page insert with reading texts makes the package complete. Exciting!.
