Jordan:Jahrhunderterbe Wiesbaden

Wiesbaden is the Gesamtkunstwerk of historicism in Germany. The author describes the boomtown of the 19th century and its transformation into an administrative and conference city. The city weathered the various threats to its historicist urban landscape in the 20th century relatively unscathed. Another focus of the book is the documentation of the local political struggles that were necessary to prevent the realization of the proposals already accepted by the city fathers and mothers in the city government from the renowned professor Ernst May, who was committed to urban planning and wanted to demolish and modernize significant parts of the city center. For the first time since the 1960s, these May plans, which would have resulted in the destruction of large parts of the historic city center, are made accessible to the public again through this book.
