God in a manger - impossible? The virgin birth - just a fairy tale? Our real skepticism is not about the virgin birth or other astonishing things that happened that night, but about the claim that God came into this world as a child. John MacArthur explains in this book why the incarnation of God is the most important message the world has ever heard, and how it can completely change our lives. A wonderful Christmas read for the whole family and a valuable gift for friends, neighbors, colleagues, and especially for those who do not yet know why Jesus came into this world.

Content: Why do we celebrate Christmas? Christmas is a time of true joy, but true joy arises where one recognizes what Christmas really is and knows the one whose birth we celebrate - Jesus Christ. We cannot know him if we do not recognize that he is real. The account of Jesus' birth is not a legend. Mary and Joseph were real people. Their dilemma of lack of space in the inn was a great hardship for them, and so they laid the baby Jesus in a manger. This first Christmas was far from what we usually imagine as a cute Christmas scene. But one thing makes it all the more astonishing: The child in the manger is God! Here lies the heart and essence of the Christmas story. There were not many worshipers around that manger - just a few shepherds. One day, however, every knee will bow before him, and every tongue will confess that he is Lord. Those who doubt him, who are his enemies, who ignore him - all will one day bow their knees as well. How much better it is to give him honor now, in the worship that he deserves! That is what Christmas should lead to.
