Johann Georg Sulzer – Johann Jakob Bodmer

Volume 10 of Sulzer's Collected Writings contains the entire correspondence between J. G. Sulzer (1720-1779) and J. J. Bodmer (1698-1783), which is transcribed and annotated here for the first time in its entirety according to the manuscripts. For the edition of Sulzer's writings, this correspondence is almost fundamental: with its 453 letters, written in 35 years (1744-1779), it is one of Sulzer's most extensive correspondences and provides a great deal of new information on central themes of the European Enlightenment, on the genesis of Sulzer's and Bodmer's writings, on their network, especially in Prussia and in Switzerland, and on aspects of their private lives. Thus, this correspondence proves to be an indispensable source if one wants to investigate the formation of the literary and academic field in the Enlightenment epoch.
