Volume V of the new Lavater edition gathers his booklet for servants, various writings, and Abraham and Isaac, all created between 1772 and 1781. Johann Caspar Lavater (1741–1801), author and pastor in Zurich since 1769, was one of the most colorful figures of his time. His charismatic personality and his predominantly Enlightenment-oriented works made Zurich an intellectual center in the second half of the 18th century. The selected works, planned in 10 volumes as a historically critical edition, publish a representative selection of Lavater's theological, philosophical-pedagogical, political, and physiognomic writings on behalf of the research foundation and the editorial team.
