Through the interaction of the two protagonists, Kralj's novel reveals all the symptoms of modern relationships, trapped in an individualistic age of alienated feelings that may seem profound but are, in reality, quite banal and superficial. A Slovenian translator, who remains nameless, embarks on a quest to uncover his grandmother's past. The Catalan architect Klara, whom he meets in Barcelona, encourages him to write down the story. From their initial encounter, a long-distance relationship develops, primarily conducted through video conferences and emails, increasingly shaped by the writing project. On one side is the translator: hesitant, dreamy, lost. On the other side is Klara: rational, determined, precise—but also manipulative. A strange relationship unfolds in many ways, one without reconciliation, characterized by constant tensions and contradictions that provoke thought and reveal the limitations of binary frameworks. In his award-winning, complex novel, Kralj repeatedly questions the bigger picture. His aim is to turn readers' perspectives upside down, showing them that there is more than just one world.
