Product details
In 1885, Friedrich Nietzsche made the decision to publish a new edition of his writings that would highlight the unique and incomparable aspects of these works. This concept is also followed by the newly published edition of the philosophical works in six volumes, edited by Claus-Artur Scheier.
Volume 1: Beyond Good and Evil (1886), The Birth of Tragedy (New Edition 1886), X, 414 pages.
Volume 2: Human, All Too Human 1 (New Edition 1886), VI, 358 pages.
Volume 3: Human, All Too Human 2 (New Edition 1886), VI, 330 pages.
Volume 4: Dawn (New Edition 1887), VI, 330 pages.
Volume 5: The Gay Science / We Fearless Ones (New Edition 1887), VI, 338 pages.
Volume 6: On the Genealogy of Morals (1887), Twilight of the Idols (1889), VI, 314 pages.
This first edition of Friedrich Nietzsche's philosophical works in the Philosophical Library follows the concept of a new edition of his truly philosophical writings, as conceived and justified by Nietzsche himself in 1885, and presents the text according to the original editions from 1886/1887, supplemented by the Twilight of the Idols published in 1889. Friedrich Nietzsche was unable to provide a complete final edition modeled after Goethe, as in the end he was no longer in control of his senses. But does this really give cause for complaint? Or, to put it another way: Would Nietzsche have even wanted and approved of such an edition that simply gathers everything he wrote? This question must remain open. However, there are certainly reasons not to equate Nietzsche with those who were only concerned with securing their posthumous fame and steering it according to their own ideas.
