The volume, first published in 2002, contains key texts on postcolonial approaches in history and cultural studies. It invites readers to rethink European history in the context of colonialism and imperialism and to broaden their perspective on the interconnections between European and non-European countries. The second, expanded edition has been supplemented with current reference texts from postcolonial theory. Additionally, the editors trace research and discussions since the book's publication in a new afterword.
