The therapeutic relationship between client and therapist is known to be a very important factor in psychotherapies. In addition, there are other general and specific factors that are often underestimated in their significance, yet are rarely reflected upon in their interconnections – for example, in hypnotherapy, but also in the work with dual attention in EMDR and parts therapy.

Jochen Peichl provides an impressive overview in this book, which is of great value to psychotherapists in observing and reflecting on their practice. Alongside the corrective emotional re-experience, it is particularly new findings from memory research (memory update), the use of dual attention when confronting distressing events, and insights from brain research (default mode networks) that fundamentally expand our current understanding of effect hypotheses in psychotherapy, especially in hypnotherapeutic parts therapy. Important insights into directing attention also emerge for hypnotherapeutic trauma therapy when it comes to constructing a shared therapeutic reality.
