Fanny Lewald: Jenny. In 1843, Fanny Lewald achieved a literary breakthrough with "Jenny," one of the first novels by a woman in the German language. The autobiographically inspired title character, Jenny Meier, initially chooses against love in the tension between love and religious orthodoxy, only to be tragically enlightened later. This is a complete new edition with a biography of the author. Edited by Karl-Maria Guth. The text is based on the edition: Fanny Lewald: Collected Works. New revised edition, Volume 9, Berlin: Verlag von Otto Janke, 1872. The pagination of the above edition is included in this new edition as a marginal note, with precise line reference.
