Jáchymov

They meet by chance: the publisher and the dancer. He is seeking healing in the old spa hotel of Jáchymov and encounters the horrors of this place. The dancer begins to tell him a story that has accompanied her throughout her life. It is the tragedy of her father. As a hockey goalkeeper for the Czechoslovak national team since the 1930s, he was a star who believed that his successes would protect him from the arbitrary rule of the communist regime. Then he was arrested. He was deported, among other places, to the labor camps of Jáchymov, a uranium mine in a valley of the Ore Mountains. After five years, he is granted amnesty and released as a terminally ill man. His family is left with nothing but to watch him slowly die. The daughter becomes the chronicler of an uncertain memory from which she can no longer escape.
