Product details

The book is an introduction to the Java programming language. The first chapters cover the basics: classes, objects, interfaces, and packages. Subsequent chapters deal with user interfaces, exception handling, thread programming, client/server implementation, Java's security mechanisms, and the invocation of remote methods. All language constructs and the classes used from the Java standard library are illustrated with examples. Each chapter is followed by a series of exercises. The complete example programs and solutions to the exercises are located on the accompanying CD-ROM. In the 4th edition, the treatment of the IO framework has been expanded to include the New IO API (NIO), which has been introduced alongside the stream-based API since JDK 1.4. Some client/server examples have been converted to NIO. The exception handling section has been updated with the new J.
