Humans are social animals inclined towards sociability, forming friendships, creating families, and establishing associations. Despite the existing similarities, sociology, which helps humans observe their social activities, often examines the various types of social groups separately. This is particularly true for the previously somewhat disconnected strands of group sociology and friendship sociology. But what if the participants in these fields collaborated and combined their expertise? Could this lead to new insights into the forms of our coexistence? And might something new emerge from this?

Our goal is to bring the research strands of friendship sociology and group sociology closer together. We start from the observation that both friendship and group sociology focus on the same social phenomena, merely describing them from different perspectives. Stefan Kühl / Janosch Schobin.
