Janosch - Leben & Werk

Janosch has many faces. It starts with the fact that he is known by a different name. It also has to do with his birthplace in Upper Silesia, the border region between Germany and Poland, in Zabrze, which at that time belonged to Germany and was called Hindenburg, and is now Polish again. Here, opposites are connected and similarities are distinguished. And those who consider Janosch to be a children's book author are only capturing a part of his remarkably versatile work. His creations range from pen drawings, oil paintings, etchings, and woodcuts to designs for textiles and everyday objects. Janosch's work is full of reminiscences and reflections on visual arts and literature. At the same time, it reflects a keen critical observation of society. Janosch - both an anarchist and a moralist - is an exceptional artist who does not fit into any category. On the occasion of his 90th birthday on March 11, 2021, this picture book, containing more than 240 illustrations, offers a retrospective of six decades of Janosch's artistic creation. It includes a foreword by an unknown admirer, a text by Janosch, a bibliographic list of the depicted works, and a short biography.
